Mother's Day Weekend - May 6-8. 2011

Since none of our children are coming over for Mother's Day, we decided to run away to Salt Lake for the weekend. This is a very nontraditional Mother's Day for us. We left Friday around 3:00pm to start our adventure. We stopped in Ogden to eat dinner at the Timbermine Restaurant up Ogden Canyon. Always delicious! We got to our hotel around 9:00pm. We are staying at Little America.
Saturday morning we met Chelsi at Lamb's for breakfast. We usually split the eggs benedict. Our first stop of the day was at RC Willey's. We bought a new microwave, 2 wall candle holders and a coffee table for a little over $300. I just love a good sale! Then we went to the Lion House Pantry for lunch. Our next stop was the Beehive House, home of Brigham Young and his family. This was our first time here. The tour was fascinating. Check out this old doorknob, It is the coolest ever!

We spent the next few hours on a Treasure Hunt around Temple Square. We were on a search for the not so common things around Temple Square. We found the Meridian Marker, the Cedar of Lebanon, a small leaf imprinted in the cement near the Tabernacle.
Did know that the Big Dipper is on one of the outside walls of the Temple? Well, we found it!
This next place is the water wheel...
and the original stone wall at the Brigham Young Memorial Park. It was part of the wall that surrounded Brigham Young's farm. It used to be 9 feet high. We also found the grave site of Brigham Young and Eliza R. Snow at the Mormon Pioneer Memorial Monument. It was fun to find these interesting things.
Of course we had to visit the Hatch Family Chocolate Store. Here I am getting my picture with the owner. I have seen him and his wife on TV and watched them make some incredible things with chocolate. He was very friendly and nice enough to let me have this picture. We bought Chelsi a chocolate nose, because of her car accident and her broken nose.
Chelsi is our hostess at Olive Garden tonight for dinner with Brock and Carrie. She is sporting a nice shiner from her accident. She laughed real hard when we presented her with the chocolate nose. We are very grateful that she was not hurt worse. After she got off work, we met her at the movie theater and saw the movie "Thor" in 3-D. This was my first time seeing a movie in 3-D. It was pretty cool.
Sunday morning we went back to Temple Square to sit in the Tabernacle and listen to "Music and the Spoken Word" This was another first for us, to hear the Tabernacle Choir in person was simply fantastic! I enjoyed every minute of this experience. Then we went back to our hotel for the Mother's day Brunch at Little America. It was a lovely event. Clinton took a picture of me in front of these beautiful swan ice sculptures. The food was delicious.
Then we headed for home. We went out to the Plano Cemetery to visit his Mother's grave. He put these pretty flowers in the ground for her. It has only been two months since she past away. It was strange to not buy her a gift or go see her or talk to her on this day.
